Notes for Models
The Nature of Modelling
Modelling is a competitive industry requiring models to be not only beautiful but to possess a number of personality and character qualities such as - honesty, punctuality, reliability, patience, tolerance, loyalty, perseverance, competitiveness, ambition, friendliness, common sense, creativity, a strong work ethic and sense of responsibility.
With regards to security, please note that one of the main functions of model agencies in this day and age is to help screen potential model-hirers for their suitability and to deter undesirable ones. Ample evidence of this agency's effort to do this can be seen with the registration forms for model-hirers in the Registrations section.
For most models modelling is part time, or casual work providing a modest, irregular and supplementary income. For some it is the path to fame and fortune and for others it leads nowhere, but you'll never really know what promise it holds for you until you give it a try.
Why Join a Modelling Agency?
Modelling Agencies help models to find work in a market where there are many more models than modelling jobs. These agencies provide models with a ready made supply of customers, an advertising and promotion programme, security, advice, convenience and general support. See pix of Glamour Girls at Work.
Many model hirers much prefer to work with a modelling agency because they too like the greater convenience, security, reliability, advice, and general support that an agency can provide.
How to Join
If you believe that you have what it takes, and you are 16 years of age or older, then please feel welcome to join our agency. Models who live in Canberra, Australia, will be required to meet with a representative of the agency in person to register with the agency. Non-Canberra models may register simply by filling in the Online Registration Form.
16 & 17 Year Old Models
Please note that if you are aged between 16 years and the age of adulthood for your jurisdiction you must be able to prove your age and have parental or guardian permission to model with this agency.
You will need to be accompanied or chaperoned by a parent, legal guardian or authorised adult to meetings and work associated with this modelling agency.
The types of work available to you will be, in all liklihood, restricted compared with adult models due to age restricted access to work associated with various industries and the laws of the particular jurisdiction within which work migh be found.
Portfolio Images
Regardless of where a model lives, it is absolutely essential that we have at least one dozen (12), sharp, well composed images of yourself clearly showing what you look like in a variety of different poses, clothing, hairstyles and locations and from a variety of different angles.
Ideally these images should be taken by a professional photographer but a good amatuer will probably do. We believe that modelling should be as accessible and affordable as possible to all modelling candidates.
Shop around for the best value for money and keep in mind that with photography, as with anything else, you will typically get what you pay for. However there are exceptions in photography and some models will pay up to $5,000 AUD for a portfolio and still not be satisfied. The quality of photos, very much like beauty, is "in the eye of the beholder".
What really counts though in a models portfolio is whether or not it gains you paid work, and that may NOT be determined by your portfolio pictures being wonderful works of art, or to your particular liking. Therefore seek our advice and send us some samples of the work of the photographer you are considering using if you are unsure.
In Canberra, our agency provides a very affordable 'no frills', but good value for money portfolio service and can increasingly recommend suitable photographers in other Australian States.
If you have your portfolio pictures taken by anyone other than our agency, please ensure that you have written approval from the photographer to have the pictures used by our agency for your promotion.
